Here’s a good sized FDotD candidate at 1758 sq ft. It’s on a nice cul de sac.We recall it was painted a much brighter shade of green back in 2004 when it was listed for $275K. It’s now the unwanted asset of the Freddie Mac organization. their interests in this sale are being represented by [...] […]
We are informed this one is coming soon, but has no price yet. In fact, the locksmith had begun work on it as we left, so no interior shots. It needs cleaning anyway. The kitchen looks typical of the homes for sale in the Land Park area. These were built just a few years ago, [...] […]
It’s a sad day when we see the foreclosed home of friends on display here as FDotD. Sigh. Well, this cute bungalow was once a much loved project, but is now waiting for new owners to love it again. You, perhaps? We like the curves and angles, and the hardwood floors of this 1100 sq [...] […]
Today’s FDotD looked familiar. We showed it a couple of times in 2009. Back then it was listed as 28269 Alpine Way, and this same Shingletown foreclosure home seems to have sold for $109K. Here’s how it looked back then: Remarkably similar. Anyway it must not have lasted long before being foreclosed again. It’s listed [...] […]
Here’s a nice looking home in a terrific northwest Redding neighborhood. We took this shot above while driving out to the FDotD on Americana a few days ago. We are provided with a large number of images of this foreclosed Redding CA home at the MLS listing here. Hmm, can’t understand why they left the [...] […]
Our 600th post! Actually, this is our 601st post. We had no idea we’d be doing this when we started out almost 2 years ago. Just look at all the foreclosures. Scrolling back through the posts here is like a daily diary of pain and recovery. Surely, history will look back on this REO era [...] […]
According to tax records, today’s FDotD sold for a generous $430K back in 2006. Prior to that it seems to have sold as a new home for $287K in 2004. So: the value of this home nearly doubled in 2 years? Now, the value has descended to less than it cost new 6 years ago? [...] […]
Here’s a 2800 sq ft west Redding home with a pool for less than $100 per sq ft. Below replacement costs, probably. This 2 story 4/3 was built in 1968, and sits at the end of the Quartz Court cul-de-sac. The pie shaped lot is quite large in back, and there is a a portable [...] […]
It appears that this lovely home was built in 2008, and then abandoned. It’s a very modern stucco 1681 sq ft 3/2 with granite slab, tile floor kitchen and newly landscaped front and back. Inside laundry, and energy efficient construction. The lot overlooks a greenbelt in a terrific northwest Redding neighborhood, and there is a [...] […]
A wise thought seen today at this landmark Redding Church. The striking pyramid form located the top of Placer is visible for miles around town. The First Presbytarians have a website HERE. They have been active in Redding for over 130 years.
Saw this tire swing on Cow Creek near Whitmore yesterday. It called out to me. Too cool for an Autumn swim, I settled for a photograph or two.
Overexposed going for the long shutter time ‘misty water’ look. Photographers who master that technique have my admiration.
Not Really Redding. Perhaps Really Whitmore.
Butch, the neighbor’s cat wandered in this morning and made himself at home. We thought this was just a stylish end-table, but Butch quickly identified it as a cat gazebo for feline meditations. Who mew?
Restoration efforts have paid off for Clear Creek, but even so, this Fall run seems way below recent years.
We tried to imagine prior runs where the creek was filled with fish from edge to edge.
We spotted these battered sojourners enjoying the gravel beds below the lookout on Clear Creek Road near Redding. They are kind of difficult to make out, but we were at least a hundred feet away, and far above them.

Esperanza and Luis sell their Tamales at the Farmer’s Market in Redding. A yummy tamal in the morning makes the rest of the day go well (just $2). They have beef, pork, chicken, and a veggie version. All good. We like them all. You can get their salsa, and put on red or green sauce, and sour creme even. Delicious. Then, take home a half dozen or so fresh ones for dinner later (just $10). Steam them up, and wow. Wow.
As an aside, Redding based Esperanza Tamales only sells at Farmer’s markets. While they would like to have a storefront operation, they just don’t have the means to put that together. Hmm. Maybe you have an empty storefront in town. You’re not alone. There’s about a million square feet of empty commercial space in Redding. Maybe you could make these folks a deal. Low startup, moving to a better net as they build. Could be a better option for your other tenants than just another marijuana collective. Or maybe a good addition to an otherwise vacant strip mall. These tamales generate traffic. Just ask the other vendors at the Farmer’s Market. They all eat here. Call Esperanza (530) 222 8541 if this idea started some gears moving in your mind. I’d eat there.

Been messing with Micro$oft’s latest OS here the last few hours, trying to get my workstation back to useful. I like Windows 7 so far, but it’s the usual M$ nerd fest. This is appropriate:
I haven’t had an Apple computer in years, but lately I’ve been mighty tempted. We use a lot of computers around here, and gradually I have grown less patient with all the constant fiddly bits to keep Windows running. I could go on about it…..(and on and on today…)
Erin and I have been working on helping to get the Redding League of Women Voters more online. They have long had a website and a print newsletter, but it’s a real adjustment to go more online. It will be worth the effort. The League has always played an important role in offering non-biased information of public interest, and surely in this wired world, the need is stronger than ever. Your right to accurate and factual information before a vote is a right worth fighting for. They are just getting started. You can join the group on Facebook.
You may also read and/or subscribe the online newsletter at The Voter (http://www.LWVRedding.info). Better yet, you can contribute to the information and discussion at either place. Get on board!
My printed paper arrived totally soaked today. Obviously the carrier didn’t bother reading the headline! Perhaps he thought he was delivering the online version.
At least we were able to enjoy the Alliteration of the second header, Pot Plantations Problematic on Private Property. Good one, fellas.
“Saw” this yard sculpture at a probate property sale in Bella Vista yesterday and just had to post it. You can picture the scene:
“Grandpa, what are you going to do with all those old sawblades?” asked Grandma.
“I’m making a ’saw horse,’ get it? Hee!” he replied.
Grandpa was a hoot. Even painted mostly aqua blue, it’s a little hard to make it out in the photo, but it’s striking enough in person. You can buy Grandma and Grandpa’s old 2 acre slice of Bella Vista life, including their 2 pigeon coops(?) for $179K.

Orville Thomas of local ABC affiliate KRCR News Channel 7 interviewed me over the weekend about the impending deadline for the federal first time homebuyer tax credit. We spoke for quite a while at a home for sale where I am representing a first time homebuyer in escrow. Orville is a bright and articulate guy, so it was fun. We were in a bank-owned home where the seller is represented by Robin Rivera. My buyer had an emergency at the last minute, so Orville interviewed me instead, and ran with it. I think it turned out okay.
